- I was hired to be the x-ray technician and to be a back-up for nursing. My duties for x-ray were to take x-rays as ordered by the providers, and run quality control for the chemical processor and imaging cassettes. When the switch to digital x-ray imaging was made, I no longer was responsible for the quality control in the same aspects. I made sure patients were properly positioned and shielded with lead aprons for each exam they needed, made copies for them as requested and transported them to and from the imaging department.

As a back-up medical assistant for the nursing department, I was responsible for calling patients back to their rooms, taking medical histories and vital signs, giving shots, and performing tasks the providers requested (cerumen removal, EKG's)

Later on, I was given the responsibility of sterilizing the surgical equipment used for minor back-office surgeries (i.e. toenail removal, sutures and suture removal, etc).

As I worked in a small family practice with limited staff, I also learned to work the reception desk. I learned to answer the multiline phone system, schedule appointments, check the patients in, verify insurances and mail correspondences.
